The Shows That Defined Fall 2026

From Jonathan Anderson's Dior garden to Matthieu Blazy's Chanel revolution Fashion Month Fall 2026 was a season of new voices, bold visions and moments that will define what we wear for years to come.

Fashion Month Fall 2026 was unlike any season in recent memory. New creative directors found their footing, legendary houses reasserted their authority, and the runway from New York to Paris reminded the world why fashion remains one of the most powerful forms of cultural expression on earth.

It began in New York, where Michael Kors drew one of the season’s most star-studded front rows and Sandy Liang sent models down the runway in two-inch bunny slippers to a Post Malone soundtrack. “There’s no single aesthetic or theme that defines NYFW,” noted one editor and that eclecticism was precisely what made it so exciting. From there, the fashion world moved to Milan, then London, and finally Paris where the real conversation began.

The Defining Shows

Six Collections Everyone Is Still Talking About

Dior — Paris

Anderson's Garden of Delights

Jonathan Anderson staged his A/W 2026 Dior show in the Jardin des Tuileries, constructing a circular set around a pond populated with Monet-esque lily pads, while the invitation comprised miniature versions of the park’s signature green metal chairs. It was theatre, craft and fashion as one and it dominated the season’s conversation.

Chanel — Paris

Blazy's Butterfly Effect

Matthieu Blazy quoted Gabrielle Chanel: “Fashion is both caterpillar and butterfly.” In practice, this looked like practical sets, ribbed knits and belted drop-waist skirts giving way to iridescent tweeds and embellished slip dresses. His sophomore collection sent the internet into a frenzy and for good reason.

Presented on a bright-yellow runway populated by German artist Cosima Von Bonin’s plush figures of clams, octopi and dogs, the collection was a riot of curvy shearling parkas, 3D-printed slips and shaggy-hemmed dresses. Chloë Sevigny, Gemma Ward, Kristen McMenamy and Gillian Anderson all walked.

Hermès — Paris

Hermès’ moody palette was inspired by nightfall oxblood reds, forest greens and deep almost-grey blues. Jodhpurs, over-the-knee boots and quilted-leather pieces nodded to the house’s equestrian heritage, while new ostrich-leather chapka hats and bags with timepieces in their handles added modern intrigue.

Saint Laurent — Paris

Seduction & the Suit

Anthony Vaccarello’s A/W 2026 collection was a well-tailored presentation of sheer seduction and attention-demanding suits that led “a conversation between the parameters of femininity and masculinity,” as stated in the show notes. Marking the house’s 60th anniversary of Le Smoking, it was a defining statement.

Loewe — Paris

Colourful Creative Play

Sports Drama

Hudson Williams · Connor Storrie

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez’s sophomore Loewe collection translated their colourful beach-ready debut for winter, resulting in curvy dégradé shearling parkas, 3D-printed slips and shaggy-hemmed dresses. Inflatable elements meant garments could even be transformed in size.

The Verdict

What This Season Means

Dior led the entire 2026 season by a commanding margin, capturing 12.4% of all global fashion discourse meaning more than one in ten conversations about the season were focused on their show alone. That is the power of a truly visionary collection, and Jonathan Anderson delivered exactly that.

“Fashion is both caterpillar and butterfly. We need dresses that crawl and dresses that fly.”

— Gabrielle Chanel, quoted by Matthieu Blazy at Chanel Fall 2026

What defined Fall 2026 above all was the sense of freedom designers willing to experiment, to contradict themselves, to find beauty in unexpected places. From a lily pad-covered pond in the Tuileries to bunny slippers in New York, fashion this season was unafraid to play. And that, ultimately, is when it is at its most powerful.
